Ministers and senior officials from across Australia gathered in Darwin last week for the Trade and Investment Ministers Meeting (TIMM) and the Tourism Ministers Meeting (TMM).
Northern Territory Government is committed to creating opportunities for trade and investment, promoting the tourism industry and growing our international education and training sector.
TIMM is an important trade and investment forum and it is an important avenue to help improve cross-jurisdictional dialogue and coordination on trade and investment policy and promotion.
Attendees included the Australian Trade, Tourism and Investment Minister the Hon Steven Ciobo MP, and his equivalents from the states and territories. The newly appointed CEO of the Australian Trade Commission (Austrade), Dr Stephanie Fahey, also attended.
Discussions included trade and investment priorities relating to regional and northern Australia, updates on current trade negotiations, global trade and investment developments and their implications for Australia, and discussions on the new Critical Infrastructure Centre.
The TIMM meeting coincided with TMM in Darwin which culminated in the Australian Tourism Awards that were held at the Darwin Convention Centre.
The tourism meeting had a focus on the growth of the tourism industry, labour and skills, regional tourism infrastructure, investment attraction and Beyond Tourism 2020, planning for the future.
The next TIMM and TMM will be held in Perth in February 2018.
